The artwork draws from the visual language of liberation movement posters, the kind that were passed hand to hand, pinned to walls, and printed in the dark. Bouhired was sentenced to death by a French military tribunal in 1957 for her role in the Algerian independence struggle. She survived. Algeria won. Her image still burns.
